ST reservation should be enhanced upto ten percent in Telangana, says Congress MP Uttam Kumar Reddy
HYDERABAD: Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy of the Congress has charged the TRS government of taking the votes of ST community by promising to enhance their reservations from the present 6 percent to 10 percent but not doing it till date.
Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao did not take up the issue seriously due to which his promise of enhancing the ST reservation has remained unfulfilled.
1x1 polls
The STs constitute 9.08 percent of the total state population as a result of which their reservations have to be increased up to 10 percent. " The state government can enhance the quota by issuing G.O. but it has not been done by CM KCR, " he alleged.
Uttam also found fault with BJP strongman and Union home minister Amit Shah's statement that 4 percent Muslim quota will be scrapped and distributed among SC, ST and BCs. " If BJP is serious about enhancing the ST quota, it can do so by approving the ST Enhancement Reservation Bill passed by the Telangana Assembly in 2017 and sent to the Centre," he said. He advised the BJP to think constructively by enhancing the ST quota and not act negatively by proposing to remove Muslim quota.
The TRS government is also not implementing its election promise of distributing three acres of land to Tribals for cultivation and has not given 2-BHK houses. Both TRS and BJP governments are trying to exploit the STs by promising sops and taking their vote but not implementing them.
